I'm Angela Beare, a registered dietitian, IOC-trained in sports nutrition.
I am a retired military mama-athlete. During my time of service, I had 4 kiddos and returned to service and sport with the same level of commitment but varying levels of success.
There was not a lot of information and research when I was navigating my first postpartum return to sport. I felt the pressure to just do exactly what my body had done before. I forged through the postpartum transition with blinders on and didn't pay attention to the season I was in. I do not recommend that approach!
Fortunately, we have come a long way in sports nutrition research and in the support of athletes in the postpartum season. We know what deficiencies to look out for, how to prevent injuries, and what fuel the body needs.
